Self Directed IRA's and Real Estate
Here's a great article my partner Jeff Dunkley wrote about using your self directed IRA funds to buy Real Estate. The response we have had from this has been overwhelming!
REAL ESTATE IRA's & 401k's
It was recently revealed to me in a local real estate industry magazine that people owning some Self Directed IRA's and 401k's can spread their investment into real estate. As a 62 year old ex-corporate employee I was completely unaware of this fact. I feel that I was never told the truth. However, I have been fortunate enough to have saved a substantial amount of money in a Self Directed IRA Plan!
So I read with some real interest that "Investors have always had complete control over selecting and directing retirement investments within a Self Directed IRA account. Brokerages, banks and insurance companies have had a self serving interest in promoting their own branded branded products, and NOT educating their clients in non-security based investment types" (SEVRAR NEWS MAGAZINE Nov & Dec 2007)
Upon reading that rather surprisingly good news I did a little more research and became assured that Real Estate can , indeed, be acquired and held in some Self Directed IRA 's or 401k 's - but only for investment purposes.
Here is the link to the most informative website that I have seen to date: www.myrealestateira.com. If you are interested in diversifying your Self Directed IRA or 401k Plan, I would suggest visiting this website - then click on :

I have also discovered that overall interest in this subject is running high right now because the residential real estate market is now qualified as a "buyers market". That means that it is a good time to buy! So if you have a Self Directed IRA or 401k Plan; and if you have any interest in diversifying your money within it, you should contact your Plan provider (custodian) and make the appropriate arrangements. You should then find and work with a licensed REALTOR that you can trust to locate a property that fits into your budget and investment strategy.
